Terms of Service
Last updated September 30, 2026
In plain words
- PetitionLens is a research and guidance tool. It is not a law firm and not legal advice.
- We are not affiliated with USCIS or any government agency.
- Nothing here predicts or guarantees the outcome of any petition. You are responsible for what you file.
- Talk to a licensed immigration attorney before you file.
- All features are free during our launch. We will give at least 30 days’ notice before any paid plan, and you are only charged if you choose one.
- The service is provided “as is” and our liability is limited (Sections 12 and 13). Your statutory rights as a consumer are not affected.
- These Terms are governed by the law of England and Wales (Section 15).
1. Agreement
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) are a contract between you and WEBOCTALS LTD, a company registered in England and Wales with company number 16730955 and registered office at 54 Dorset Terrace, Leeds, England, LS8 3QR (“PetitionLens”, “we”, “us”). They cover the PetitionLens website, accounts, tools and content (the “Service”). By using the Service or creating an account, you agree to these Terms, our Privacy Policy and our Disclaimer. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
You must be at least 18 years old and able to form a binding contract to use the Service.
2. What PetitionLens is, and what it is not
PetitionLens helps you research public immigration decisions and policy, and organize your own preparation. It gives general information about how petitions have been decided in the past.
PetitionLens is not:
- a law firm, a lawyer, or a substitute for one;
- legal advice, or an opinion on your specific facts or eligibility;
- an immigration consultant, “notario”, or a U.S. Department of Justice accredited representative or recognized organization;
- your representative before U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), the Department of State, the immigration courts or any other agency. We do not sign, file or submit anything on your behalf;
- a government service. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or acting for USCIS, the Department of Homeland Security or any government agency. Official forms, fees, filing and case status are only at uscis.gov.
Using the Service does not create an attorney-client relationship or any other professional or fiduciary relationship between you and us. Communications with us are not privileged or protected as attorney-client communications.
3. No prediction or guarantee of any outcome
Decisions are made by government officers on the full record of each case. We do not know, and cannot predict, how your petition will be decided. In particular:
- The appeal decisions in PetitionLens are cases that USCIS had already denied at least once. Their statistics describe denied cases, not approval rates or your chances.
- Administrative Appeals Office (AAO) decisions shown here are non-precedent: they bind only the parties in that case and are not law.
- Laws, regulations, the USCIS Policy Manual and agency practice change. Content may be out of date on the day you read it.
No statement, score, tag, chart or document from the Service is a promise or prediction of approval.
4. Your responsibilities
- You alone are responsible for any petition, form, letter or evidence you prepare or file, and for decisions you make using the Service.
- You will check every legal statement against the official source (such as uscis.gov and the Policy Manual) and have your filing reviewed by a licensed immigration attorney before you rely on it.
- Everything you submit to any government agency must be true and complete. Never use the Service to create or support false statements or documents. Doing so can be a federal crime and can lead to permanent immigration consequences.
- If you enter information about another person, you must have their permission and the right to share it.
5. Automated and AI-generated content
Parts of the Service are produced automatically: objection tags, statistics, search results, evidence-coverage checks, document reviews and draft text. Today these come from rules and templates; future features may use artificial-intelligence models, and we will say so where they do. Automated content can be incomplete, out of date, or wrong, and may look confident when it is wrong. It is a starting point for your own research, not a finished or reviewed legal document. You must review, verify and edit anything you use, and you are the author of anything you file.
6. Source data and intellectual property
- Government works. AAO decisions and USCIS Policy Manual text are works of the U.S. government and are in the public domain. We reproduce them for reference and claim no rights in them. The official version on uscis.gov controls; our text may contain scanning (OCR) errors.
- Third-party open data. Where the Service uses open datasets (for example OpenAlex scholarly metadata, released under CC0), we credit the source. We are not affiliated with those providers.
- Our work. The PetitionLens name and logo, the software, design, objection catalog, explanations, tags, summaries, compilations and analytics are owned by us or our licensors and are protected by law. We grant you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the Service for your own research and preparation, under these Terms.
- Your content. You keep ownership of what you upload or enter. You give us permission to store and process it only to run the Service for you, as described in the Privacy Policy.
- Feedback. If you send suggestions, we may use them without obligation to you.
7. Accounts
Give accurate information, keep your password secure, and do not share your account. You are responsible for activity under your account. Tell us promptly at [email protected] if you suspect unauthorized use.
8. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- break any law, or use the Service to commit or assist fraud or misrepresentation;
- scrape, crawl, bulk-download, copy or resell the Service or its compiled data, or use it to build a competing product, without our written permission;
- probe, overload, bypass security on, reverse-engineer or interfere with the Service;
- present yourself or PetitionLens as a government agency or official, or suggest that we endorse you;
- use the Service to provide immigration legal services to others unless you are an attorney or accredited representative authorized to do so;
- upload malware, or content you have no right to share.
9. Free launch and paid plans
Free launch. During our launch, every feature is available free of charge to signed-in users. We do not ask for payment details.
Notice before charging. Some features may become paid. If we introduce paid plans, we will tell you by email and in the Service at least 30 days before any charge could apply. We will never move you to a paid plan automatically; you are only charged if you choose a plan. If you do not, the research tools stay free and you can export or delete your case data.
Buying a plan. Before you buy, we will show you the price (including VAT where it applies), the billing period, how renewal works, how to cancel, and your cancellation and refund rights. Those terms form part of these Terms. Payment for the Service is payment for software and content, not for legal services. Payments are processed by Stripe.
14-day money-back guarantee. If you ask within 14 days of your first payment for a plan, we will refund that payment in full, whether or not you have used the plan. Email [email protected]. After that, you can cancel at any time and keep access until the end of the period you paid for; you will not be charged again. This does not affect your statutory rights.
10. Third-party sites
We link to outside sites such as uscis.gov. We do not control them and are not responsible for their content or practices.
11. Changes, suspension and termination
We may change, suspend or discontinue any part of the Service. We may suspend or close your account if you break these Terms or if needed to protect the Service, other users or the law. You may stop using the Service and ask us to delete your account at any time. Sections 3 to 6 and 12 to 16 survive termination.
12. Disclaimer of warranties
The Service and all content are provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of accuracy, completeness, currency, merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, or that the Service will be uninterrupted or error-free. We do not warrant any immigration or legal outcome. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain exclusions, so some of these may not apply to you.
If you are a consumer, nothing in these Terms affects your statutory rights. In the UK, for example, the Consumer Rights Act 2015 requires digital content and services to be as described, of satisfactory quality and provided with reasonable care and skill.
13. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, PetitionLens and its owners, employees and suppliers will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, opportunity, data, immigration status or benefit, or for any denial, delay, request for evidence or other agency action, arising from or related to the Service, even if advised of the possibility. Our total liability for all claims relating to the Service is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim arose or £100.
Nothing in these Terms limits or excludes our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for any other liability that cannot be limited or excluded by law. If you are a consumer, this Section does not affect your statutory rights.
14. Indemnity
You will defend and indemnify PetitionLens against claims, losses and costs (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your misuse of the Service, your filings, your content, or your breach of these Terms or the law.
15. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. Before bringing a claim, please contact us at [email protected] so we can try to resolve it informally within 30 days. Disputes not resolved informally will be heard by the courts of England and Wales.
If you are a consumer, you keep the protection of the mandatory laws of the country or state where you live, and you may bring proceedings in your local courts. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you may also bring proceedings in your local courts. Nothing in this Section limits consumer rights that cannot be waived.
16. General
We may update these Terms. If a change is material, we will tell you (for example by email or a notice in the Service) and ask you to accept it; continued use after the effective date means you accept it. If any part of these Terms is unenforceable, the rest remains in effect. These Terms, the Privacy Policy and the Disclaimer are the entire agreement between us about the Service. You may not assign these Terms; we may assign them in connection with a merger or sale.
